 The Benton Planning Board meets at 7:00 PM on the second Tuesday of every month at the Benton Town Office.  The meeting is open to the public.  General concerns or questions will be handled by the Board.  However, anyone with business for the Planning Board including permits and conditional use applications should contact the Code Enforcement Officer, Albert Tempesta at 270-5191 to be put on the agenda for the meeting.  Requests to be on the agenda must be made at least 7 days prior to the meeting date.

BENTON VETERANS MEMORIAL




The Benton Veterans Memorial is an ongoing project.  Any veterans who entered the service while living in Benton and served in a period of conflict are eligible for inclusion on the Memorial.  For a list of veterans currently on the MEMORIAL, click here.   Anyone with names or information regarding veterans who qualify for inclusion on the Memorial should contact the Benton Park and Veterans Committee through the Town Office.

The 2014 BENTON ALEWIFE FESTIVAL will be held on Saturday, MAY 17th in Benton.  For more info, visit the Facebook page (click link): "2014 Benton Alewife Festival" which also has info on the BAF MILE LONG YARD/CRAFTERS SALE and the May 16th "Eating with the Alewives" dinner at the Benton Grange.

2013 TAXES. 
The mil rate is 13.1.  Tax bills were mailed in July.  To view original 2013 real estate taxes, click

The "Circuitbreaker" program has been replaced by a refundable Property Tax Fairness Credit that can be claimed on one's 2013 Maine income tax return.  For more info, click
here.  There are no 2012 rent/property tax refunds/forms.

FIREWORKS.  Benton has no ordinance. State laws apply.  In general, "consumers" may use fireworks between 9 AM and 10 PM with exceptions on/around July 4th and Dec 31st.   To view the law, click

VEHICLE EXCISE TAX EXEMPTION FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL.   The Commanding Officer's certification form for personnel station outside of Maine is here.  For personnel stationed in Maine, the CO's certification is here.

FOOD PANTRY.  Benton uses the Fairfield Interfaith Food Pantry, 12 Newhall St, Fairfield (Fairfield First Baptist Church).  Hours are 1 PM to 3:30 PM the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month.  Point of contact is Nancy Marcoux at 509-9972.   CLOTHING.  The Lamb's Clothes Closet provides clothing, one bag per visit per person.  Adult, child and baby clothes are available every Tuesday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.   For more info, click here.

April 19, Saturday.  Spring Clean-Up Day, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at the Transfer Recycling Station in Clinton for Benton residents.

April 27, Sunday.  Benton Alewife Festival Committee Meeting, 6:00-7:00 PM, Benton Town Office.  Open to the public.  Volunteers always needed. 

May 12, Monday.  Monthly Selectmen's Meeting, 6:00 PM, Benton Town Office.

May 13, Tuesday.  Monthly Planning Board Meeting, 7:00 PM, Benton Town Office.

May 16, Friday.  EATING WITH THE ALEWIVES.  Dinner 5:00 to 6:30 PM followed by guest speakers Nate Gray, Jeff Pierce, Rick Lawrence and Doug Watts ... discussing everything and anything "Alewife".   Cost: $12.00 for one lobster, alewife chowder, smoked alewives, baked potato, vegetable and drinks.    Tickets are available at the Town Office or tickets can be purchased by contacting Diane Hebert (453-2292). Please make checks payable to "Town of Benton." All proceeds go towards the Benton Alewife Festival.

May 17, Saturday. 
3rd ANNUAL BENTON ALEWIFE FESTIVAL.  Events/locations to be determined.
